Privacy Policy and Terms of Use

Effective date: September 8, 2026

Who we are

This website, debmckenna.com, is operated by Deborah McKenna, doing business as Deb McKenna, based in Peoria, Illinois. In this policy, "we," "our," and "us" refer to that practice, and "you" refers to anyone visiting the site.

What this policy covers — and what it does not

This policy explains what happens to information collected through this website: contact form submissions, appointment requests, and ordinary website analytics.

It does not cover clinical records. Once you become a client, the information you share in sessions and intake paperwork is protected health information, governed by federal and Illinois law and described in our Notice of Privacy Practices, which you will receive separately. Nothing in this website policy limits those protections.

Information you give us

The Request Appointment and Contact buttons on this site open secure forms hosted by SimplePractice, our practice management provider. When you use them, you may provide:

Your name
Your email address
Your phone number
Whatever you choose to write in the message field

That information goes directly to SimplePractice and is stored in our account there. It does not pass through this website.

Please do not send detailed health information through a contact form. A short note about what you would like help with is all that is needed to start a conversation.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this one collects standard technical information when you visit: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, how long you stay, and the site you arrived from. This is collected through website analytics and used in aggregate to understand which pages are useful and how people find us.

We use cookies for this purpose and to keep the site working properly. Most browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. The site will still work if you do.

Embedded content from other services

Some pages include videos hosted on YouTube. When a page with an embedded video loads, YouTube may set its own cookies and collect information about your visit under Google's privacy policy, which we do not control.

Links to Amazon and to research articles take you to sites we do not operate. Their privacy practices are their own.

IF THE AMAZON LINKS ARE AFFILIATE LINKS, ADD: Some links to books are affiliate links, meaning we may earn a small commission if you purchase through them at no additional cost to you.

How we use information

We use the information you provide to respond to you, schedule consultations and appointments, and provide the services you request. We use analytics information to maintain and improve the site.

We do not sell your information. We do not rent or trade it. We do not use it for advertising to you.

How we share information

We share information only in these situations:

Service providers.

SimplePractice processes appointment requests and contact form submissions on our behalf, under an agreement that requires it to safeguard the information and use it only for that purpose. Our website host and analytics provider process technical data in the same limited way.

When the law requires it.

We may disclose information if required by subpoena, court order, or other legal process, or where disclosure is necessary to prevent serious harm.

If the practice changes hands.

If the practice is sold, merged, or transferred, information may transfer with it. You would be notified, and any successor would be bound by this policy or one providing equivalent protection.

How we protect information

The site uses encrypted connections, and SimplePractice maintains its own security protections for the forms it hosts. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security — but we do not collect more than we need, and we do not keep it longer than we need.

How long we keep it

Contact and appointment inquiries are kept as long as needed to respond and for a reasonable period afterward. Analytics data is retained in aggregate. Client records are subject to separate retention requirements under Illinois law and our Notice of Privacy Practices.

Your choices

If you subscribe to emails from us, every message includes an unsubscribe link.

You can control cookies through your browser. You can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by contacting us using the details below. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under state privacy law, and we will honor them.

Children

This site is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13 through this website. If you believe a child has provided information here, please contact us and we will delete it.

This is separate from our clinical work. Where minors are seen as clients, that is handled through parental consent and the protections described in the Notice of Privacy Practices.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date. Material changes will be noted clearly.
